Stainless steel – the elegant choice for diverse jobs
1.4301 stainless steel is a chromium-nickel steel with a carbon content of less than 0.07%.
Even without further treatment, stainless steel displays an elegant surface finish, which can be further enhanced by sanding, brushing or polishing. Various finishes are possible, right up to high-gloss mirror finishes – one reason why the material is popular in architecture and design.
The surface of 1.4301 stainless steel is extremely tough and is virtually unaffected by water or humidity. Limescale residues can be easily removed. 1.4301 is also very resistant to environmental influences. Regular cleaning is recommended for long-term corrosion protection in outdoor use.
1.4301 shouldn’t be used in a chloride environment, for example in swimming pools, because of the risk of surface attack. In marine environments, too, materials with greater corrosion resistance should be chosen.
Thanks to its smooth surface and high resistance to corrosion, stainless steel is particularly easy to clean. It is used wherever hygiene is important. It is therefore indispensable in the health sector and in food processing.
1.4301 is extremely easy to fabricate. Strong yet flexible, it can be formed into almost any shape. One key advantage is its good weldability, provided you use an electric welder. That’s why you’ll often see stainless steel used in swimming pool ladders or balcony railings.
